What was the first gulf war about and why did it happen? How did it lead up to the second gulf war? Why does america have the power to invade and have war with other lands? isn't that against the UN?|||the US invaded Iraq, because Iraq attacked Kuwait. The UN sided with the US, and committed troops to the war.|||http://gulf.refresheverything.com/sia4thegulf

|||In August 1990, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, an American ally, with huge amounts of oil in a small country. In the early part of 1991, the US and several other countries fought against Iraq, and went into Iraq but not all the way to Baghdad and did not get Saddam out of power, but did get the Iraqis out of Kuwait. As they were leaving, Iraqi forces set thousands of Kuwaiti oil wells on fire, causing an environmental disaster.

For the next few years, there was a constant threat of problems with Iraq but no out and out war, until George Bush and his advisers convinced many that the Iraqis had weapons of mass destruction, or WMD, most like chemical, and biological, and maybe even nuclear weapons. Saddam had used chemical weapons against Kurds, an ethnic group in his own country and against Iranians in the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980's, so it was not that hard to accept. But they apparently were gone but we didn't know that until it was too late and we were deeply into a war in Iraq.

We did get Saddam Hussein out of power and he was finally caught, and then executed by his own people a few years ago.|||America is the U.N and invades other countries so they can enjoy Democracy and America in return can have their oil
