Every time I read war poetry I start to cry and grow mournful Why?

Hey. Every time I read war poetry, especially war poetry involving soldier's dying and touching war poetry, I begin to get very sad and mournful. I then start to cry.

But, I have a few family members that have served in the military before, but none that were actually K.I.A. or killed or anything. And, they've retired, so their not on active duty.

Why is this? Why do I cry and grow sad every time I read any kind of war poetry?|||Maybe you sympathize for people that have lost there loved ones in war because you respect it more for having family that has served. That would be my guess. |||Because war is a very tragic and sad thing. Brave men and women volunteer to stand up and fight for what others will not. Young men and women with hopes and dreams. When you read about them or something based off that, you can feel what they felt. Some gave up everything while serving.

|||War deaths are sacrifices for one's nation. You feel sad about the departed, because of the love, affection and regard you have for them. All war poetry may not make you sad. Some poetry arouses the vengeful thoughts.

|||war is very brutal and that is reflected in the rather cold and factual way it is written. Its harshness is the reason why you feel so upset(as i do). They had little time to worry about the technical side of poetry,or editing the work. it is simple as it is straight from the heart.

|||Because you have poetic heart also because you don't read written words but you FEEL them !!!

|||Aww well maybe one of your ancestors died in war? It's sometimes said that a certain feeling, like a phobia can pass through generations. Like if someone was afraid of sharks and came in contact with one, one or more of their great grandchildren with be afraid of sharks. I'm not sure if it's for real, but I heard it from a teacher of mine.

I guess the thought of a loved one dying in war is very sensitive and touching for you. Maybe just thinking about people you know having to die like that is what gets to you?|||uh maybe because war poerty is sad even though nobody in you r family has died, its just sad.period.|||My father was in WW2 and very proud of his service. He was 74 when he passed 10 years ago. And I get a little misty over war poems and such. But I think they are tears of pride
