What is the symbolic meaning of the pose of a horse in Civil War memorials?

One foot up, two feet up, all four feet flat on the ground...I remember that it's supposed to indicate how the person in the statue died; either during the war in battle, during the war as a result of wounds suffered, or after the conclusion of the war. Anybody know for sure? And does this apply to any war memorial or just U.S. Civil War? Thanks!|||I used to hear this one all the time ... but it's not entirely true. It does hold true for many Civil War statues, but not all. Follow the link below for the whole story.|||i heard the same thing when i was on a school trip to gettysburg

i got this from the link below

"one hoof up denotes the person was injured in battle but survived in the long run. Two hooves up denotes they were killed in battle. And four hooves up is who's survived."
