What where the major impacts of the Civil War on the Cherokee Indians?

I'm writing a paper on the Cherokee Indians and the Civil War. I need an okay thesis. This is what I have for my thesis so far... The Native Americans had no right to be in the Civil War. The Cherokees seemed to be a smart and peaceful tribe, but yet they made a huge mistake by getting involved in the war because nothing good can come from it.

Is that a good thesis?

Help!|||Its a good idea but wrong wording. Thesis: The Cherokees had little to gain from participating in the civil war, The tribe is peaceful, and smart however they made an error by getting involved in the Civil War. This might need a little work, I hope this helps.|||As western expansion accelerated after 1860, frontier violence increased. Homesteaders flocking west in pursuit of cheap public lands and railroad companies laying tracks across the hunting grounds of the Plains Indians incited a series of wars that lasted almost twenty years.
