Why is the war of 1812 so important in the building of America?

Why is the war of 1812 so important in the building of America?|||The real, real answer:

The War of 1812 is also called America's Second War for Independence. Before the war most nations, including the British, believed that the US would some day be reconquered by Great Britain and brought back under the Union Jack. Thus many nations refused to sign treaties with the US in fear of angering Britain.

Also, the British were NOT arming the natives to protect their rights. They were doing so because Great Britain wanted to regain control of the old Northwest Territories, especially Michigan (which had the wealthiest fur industry in the world and the cities of Mackinac and Detroit controlled the Great Lakes). If the Northwest Territories filled with American citizens, it would be nearly impossible to someday retake the area.

By fighting to a standstill with the British (the world's most powerful nation), the US proved to the world that they were an independent nation. The war did lead to a sense of nationalism that remained until the Civil War.|||The real answer is because Americans Nationalism had increased dramaticaly as a result of standing on their own. It was the first war that the USA had fought without any foreign help. This increase in nationalism led to manifest destiny, which increased the size of the USA by 1/3. Also, it led to the era of good feeling.|||The War of 1812 that ended in 1815 brought about major change for the future of the American frontier. Basically the Native American peoples lost their future at the conclusion of this war. The British were working towards protecting SOME of the Native peoples rights to their land. At the conclusion of the ware, the Native peoples lost their rights to their land. Which as we all know was a downward spiral from there on out.

The war also ended conscripted service of Americans for the British navy.
