Why do our leaders think that the Afghanistan war will go similar to Iraq's war, they are extremely different?

Why is it not clear at the highest levels that the Afghanistan war and the Iraq war are two extremely different wars?

Are our politicians really that foolish?|||they are both lost. You cant force democracy at the end of a gun|||because in iraq many individuals lost there lives and homes and the same thing is happenin in afghanistan... ppl are being killed because they are suspected of doin things they havent...

when u think abut it they are the sames but its just that Iraq has lost alote of lives, land and leaders...

|||Albeit true of differences between the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they also have common bonds that DO make them the same.

Similarities in both wars are there's NO honor of war; the enemy wears NO uniform and blends in all too well within the general public, much like the enemy did in Vietnam--the first dirty war. And like Vietnam, the enemy in Iraq and Afghanistan know well the area terrain far better than we can, despite all our cool-whiz bang surveilance techonology existent today.

But as there are similaraties, differences make war in both countries an aimless pursuit:

Part of our U.S. military mission in Iraq and Afghanistan is to provide adequate, effective training to citizens of these countries, so they can stand independent on their own. Most all who volunteer for such training can't either read, write--or both--and have severe ADD or ADDHD; the adults are akin to elementary school children.

Then there are cultural issues that further compound the problem. They don't care to adopt social mores that call for respect of children, women and each other in areas of personal choices of one's lifestyle, religious and/or political beliefs. What other way to put it than they're bullishly stubborn and not receptive to change?

Bottom line: These people don't care to embrace independence or civilization by any decent degree---and we're wasting time, BILLION$ in U.S. taxpayer money---and U.S. troop lives trying. You can't train people for a better life if they stubbornly refuse to accept it.

U.S. politicians are not only foolish to believe otherwise--but are shameless IF they stand to profit from war.

It's time we got out of the cities of Afghanistan and Iraq, and stick to having just enough U.S. troops to protect the Iraq oil refineries from being taken by enemy hands.|||what you mean is will they both be a failure with hundreds of thousands of dead civilians. and soldiers.

my grand father served in iraq in the 1920's when iraq was part of the british empire. and he said then that 'the iraquis are ungovernable'.and that we should leave as soon as possible.

nothing changes.

as for afghanistan they beat the russians, the most blood thirsty army in the world. and even rudyard kipling said that' you need to keep one bullet spare, to blow out your brains before the afghan women come out and mutilate your body as you lie dying.

we should get out of both countries, and if we want to punish them, then fire missile at them.|||jaypauldini your grandfather is a racist first and foremost.

I think any people is governable, being the open minded conservative that I am.

and that first answer was toolish too
