How and why did opposition during the Vietnam War grow?

How and why did opposition to the Vietnam War grow? Who supported the war, and who opposed it? What role did student protests play in ending the war?|||All of what Daniel said %26amp; the fact that the Americans got involved to restore global human rights - liberty - democracy.

Opposition came as a result of the irony of liberal/democratic America - since many American human rights failed to serve its own people/minorities - and war veterans !!

Students normally lead protests - they are powerful in change since the layman needs to have a respected social leader/one born to wealth : for social power/charisma. This gives rise to the layman because a "respected" leader validates their "issues."

The American government supported the war - it was an international statement against communism. Sending men to Vietnam to restore "human rights - liberty" showed the east who's in charge. It used the TV/Media to represent an American oasis - a cultural message - American culture was of the better sort - civilized. International interests. If you want people to work for you (global trade/investment) you have to show them they can trust you. ( a symbol - like law/police/military - but the crux was revealved when the students began to protest the constructions, fake reality.|||short version:most of the young men sent to Viet Nam were drafted into the military. You could get a draft deferment if you were enrolled in college. After you graduated or left school you were draft eligible once again. that's why there was so much student opposistion to the war. The war dragged on for 12 years and was the first televised war so the country became disheartened by what they saw every night on the news. The U.S. became divided between pro-war(hawks) and anti-war(doves) not only in society but also in politics.I believe that war helped to destroy at least two presidencies,Johnson and Nixon.I believe that if they re-instated the draft today young people would make the 60's era look tame.By the 1970's very few americans gave a damn about Viet nam and just wanted our boys to come home.
